The alias field is located in the address manager on the Further information page:

The alias is used for the address search. In addition to the alias, there is also the so-called string representation. This is the string representation of the entry (Account.asstring) and is shown on the interface, for example, in the list if no expression is entered:

The alias of addresses is always calculated using the built-in string representation logic as follows:

Account

If the system setting String representation of accounts contains location is set to Yes: Last name, default location

otherwise: Last name

Person

Last name First name

Contact

If person or name is given: Account.Alias, Last name First name

otherwise: Account.Alias, Addition

Couple

If person is linked, Person.Alias; if specified as text, Last name First name.

In each case in the form PersonA, PersonB.

Simple address

If name is given: Last name First name, Attn

otherwise Attn

If one of these members is changed, the alias is rewritten.

You can change the alias manually. However, if one of the described members is changed, it will be overwritten by the system. In other words, a manually modified alias only persists until a member normally used for the alias is changed.

The alias is always shown as the string representation, except in the following two cases:

  1. The alias has been deleted (blank alias): If the alias is blank, the built-in logic is used directly to calculate the string representation.
  2. A stringrepexpression is set: If a default view is defined for the relevant class under System settings > Customizing > Class settings, this representation is used.
