Updated: 28.05.2025 | Updated to Vertec 6.8.

Folders are used in Vertec to create structures and to categorize content. In addition to regular folders, expression, SQL and query folders are available for you to use.

You can assign objects to folders manually. “Normal folders” are also used for mapping keywords.

To create a new folder, right-click on an existing folder. Select New > Folder.

The following window opens:

Designation

Name of the folder.

Free reference

On each Vertec object, there is a field called Free reference. As the name suggests, you can use this freely. For more information, see properties dialog.

Folder settings
When opening

You can now configure folders and link containers to open directly in the Resource Planning view or in the Business Intelligence (BI) view, when clicked in the default view. You have the following options:

stay in current view This means that the view remains where it is, regardless of whether it is in the default view, in the Resource Planning view, or in the BI view.
switch to default view

Selecting the folder in the Resource Planning view or BI view automatically switches to the default view. Folders configured in this way are indicated with the default view icon in the tree:

You can also assign specific BI views to the folder, which open automatically.

Only available if you have a license for the Business Intelligence module.

Classes

Selection of the classes that the folder is allowed to hold.

List Controller

You can save a List Controller here.

Index

The index can be used to specify sorting in the tree. Vertec simply sorts the folders by ascending index. If nothing is specified, the folders are sorted by objid.

Icon

All icons in Vertec are assigned a number. If you want to use a different icon for this folder than the default folder Icon (-1), you can enter the index of the desired icon here. You can find the relevant numbers in the article Icons.

Enable subfolders

If you want to create a multi-level data structure and this folder should have subfolders, you need to activate this checkbox.

Individual list for every type

If the folder contains different types of entries, a separate list can be shown for each type. See the article Folder contents with separate list per type.

Expandable

Available from Vertec 6.7.0.17. If this checkbox is deactivated, the folder in the tree cannot be opened.

Keyword settings
Keyword folder

To categorize and create keywords for the various entries in Vertec, the folder can be defined here as a keyword folder.

Icon for subfolder

If an icon index is specified here (see also field above), it is automatically assigned to newly created subfolders as an icon. Changing this value does not affect existing subfolders.

For class

When activating the keyword folder checkbox, you have to enter the class of the entries here.

Inclusive
Exclusive
Base folder
Default folder
You can find a description of these fields in Folder as keywords.

As soon as you have made these adjustments, the new folder appears in the folder structure. From now on, the permitted entries can be assigned, either via a keyword assignment or manually via drag & drop.

Note: To assign objects via a checkbox, the renderer rndKeywordFolder can be used.

These folders are located in Vertec and do not correspond to the file repository. How to link documents in Vertec to your file repository is explained in Document management with Vertec.
