What makes a solid and future-proof law firm software for you?

The first quality, of course, is reliability – that the system really runs reliably. On the other hand, it must be able to represent the features we need.

VISCHER has been a Vertec customer since 2018. How has Vertec changed as a software during this time and adapted to your requirements?

In the beginning, our rate was to copy the old solution as much as possible. However, over time, we have embraced using the solutions that Vertec presents. Conversely, it seems to me that Vertec has evolved a lot during this time: things that in our case used to be calculated in Excel outside of Vertec are now fully reproducible in Vertec. So we have really integrated the solutions more comprehensively.

Vertec is very customizable. What should you look out for?

Shaped by our own history, I would say: You have to be careful not to make it too specific and not to deviate too far from the standard, but to stay within a reasonable bandwidth. This is the only way to keep Vertec updateable, because you always want to use the latest version.

What is your strongest feature in Vertec as a Managing Partner?

It’s hard to say. I think that, on the one hand, the software enters my services through a certain simplicity: When I’m a lawyer, I basically only need a single page. But in the background, from my point of view, complex processes are depicted very well.

Another point I would like to mention are the very useful extensions in different directions, which are important for us, because we work not only with Vertec, but also with other programs. One such extension exists, for example, with Abacus: All of our time tracking and invoicing has a direct extension with accounting, and vice versa, the information from accounting flows back into Vertec. For example, if I want to check whether an invoice has been paid, I can do so reliably directly in Vertec.

What distinguishes the cooperation with Vertec?

We already have some experience with this collaboration, and there has been a change since I took office – that was two or three years ago. The distinguishing feature of the collaboration is that we have found a common modus operandi: we do not just discuss business processes or purely IT technical issues, but come together as a group and really analyse the processes together. Our Vertec advisors propose concrete solutions, which we work together to find a meaningful solution – close enough to the standard yet sufficiently tailored to us.

Was there a wow moment in dealing with Vertec?

I am not sure if there was such a moment. I was at the User Conference for the first time and thought it was a great event. The exchange between users is very valuable, as is the exchange with Vertec employees. If you look at the roadmap, you can see that Vertec actually has people who are actively planning for the future. I would say that the average partner here might have a slightly different picture than you get here – where it becomes clear that Vertec is really a forward-looking company.
